Lenten Service Project to Benefit MCA

The second grade and seventh grade classes are working together to coordinate a collection during the season of Lent to benefit the Missionary Childhood Association. The Missionary Childhood Association (MCA) is founded on the idea that children, rich in faith and love, are capable of playing their own part in the Church’s mission – and even
stirring adults to show the same generous spirit. MCA raises money for missions throughout the world. Their work mainly benefits school -aged children in developing nations, providing them with food, clothing, and educational supplies.

Collection boxes (one for each student) were sent home on Wednesday, March 7. The goal of the project is humble. Students and their families are encouraged to collect spare change in their boxes for the duration of Lent. Keep the box somewhere noticeable in the house and simply collect whatever change you may have at the end of each day.
Students will be asked to return their boxes to school during Holy Week, between Monday, March 26 and Wednesday, March 28. They can return their boxes to their homeroom teachers, and 7th grade students will come around to collect the boxes and track the total number of boxes returned at the end of each day. Our goal is 100% participation. Last year, Sacred Heart raised over $1,000 for children in need – we’re hoping to meet, and if possible, exceed that goal again this year. On behalf of MCA and the children they serve, thank you so much for your support!
