January Service Project for Team Heart

We thank and congratulate Mrs. Mazza and the third grade class for a successful January service project! This year, the class supported Team Heart, a non-profit medical organization focused on bringing sustainable cardiac care to Rwanda. Team Heart is especially dear to Sacred Heart as our very own school nurse, Julie Carragher, travels to Rwanda annually as part of Team Heart’s medical team.

Team Heart travels to Rwanda to perform lifesaving surgery on people with damaged heart valves—a disease caused  by untreated strep throat and completely preventable with a simple course of penicillin.

During the month of January, our Pre-K – grade 8 students, under the direction of Mrs. Mazza and her third grade class, made prayer cloths for Rwandan patients. Each prayer cloth includes a prayer of healing. The school also enjoyed a Tag Day on Friday, 1/18, to raise money for Team Heart—together we raised $1,000!

Nurse Julie departed for Rwanda over the weekend and will deliver the prayer cloths to her patients during her visit.

Well done, grade 3! And thank you to everyone who supported this worthy project.
